Media Innovation Awards opens for entries

The 2008 Media Innovation Awards opens for entries from Thursday November 1st.

Almost 3500 members of the five media cluster groups in the region - from Cornwall through to Dorset and Gloucestershire - will be able to enter any of the 15 categories within this year’s awards. The closing date for entries is January 31.

A panel of specialist judges will award entrants for innovative use of screen-based media in categories such as television, website, mobile communications and independent film with the overall winner getting the MIA 2008 trophy.

Following the success of the 2007 awards, which were open solely to Devon and Cornwall, organisers Plymouth Media-partnership anticipate an exciting and competitive event for 2008.

The aim of the awards is to raise the profile of media and new media companies across the region.  Cluster group members and their clients will be invited to enter work completed in 2007.  Winners will be presented with their trophies at a glittering awards ceremony in Plymouth in March next year.

Last year’s overall winners, HMC Interactive , were commended for their outstanding contribution to the industry, in particular their Purple Planet exhibition for Cadbury World, despite the company being only five years old. Other category winners included ITV Westcountry and Twofour as well as some dynamic small companies and talented individuals.

Karen Stockdale of the organisers Plymouth Media-Partnership said: “There is a huge range of talent across the region and this initiative will celebrate the very best screen-based media work.  We are very excited to open the awards to the whole of the South West and look forward to showing that the region is a centre of excellence for creative industries.”
