Here are the categories for the 2009 awards. Judges will look for creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation and where appropriate sustainability will be a criteria.
1 – Television sponsored by Silverstream
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project broadcast on digital or terrestrial television. The project may be a programme, a short, a promotion, a commercial, a title sequence or an ident.
2 – DVD or CD Rom
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project produced specifically for DVD or CD (material produced for another platform & subsequently released wholly or substantially on DVD is not eligible)
3 – Community Website sponsored by Plymouth City Council
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a website produced for a not-for-profit organisation or charity (this category incorporates IPTV projects/channels)
4 – Corporate Website sponsored by Business Link South West
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a website produced for a company or profit-making organisation (this category incorporates IPTV projects/channels)
5 – Mobile Communications Project sponsored by Tamar Science Park
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project using mobile technology (this includes material for download to mobile phones, MP4, and POD Casting)
6 – Multi-platform project sponsored by Pyramid Presentations
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project that makes use of more than one technical platform.
7 – Independent Film or Video project sponsored by Bristol City Council
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project produced on film or video that has not been commissioned by a broadcaster or other organisation (this includes material intended for cinematic or theatric release, film festivals and competitions etc).
8 – Screen Graphics
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial or commercial innovation in a graphic design project for screen.
9 - Print Graphics sponsored by Out of Hand
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial or commercial innovation in a graphic design project for print.
10 – Photographic
This award has been cancelled for the 2009 competition
11 – Installation/Exhibition
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a project produced for installation or exhibition (this includes interactive museum installations making use of a range of technologies and platforms)
12 – Audio/music for screen sponsored by Audio Network
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in an audio or music project for the screen (this includes audio and music composition for television, film, video and the web).
13 – Virtual World/Gaming sponsored by O2
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in a Virtual World or Gaming project (this includes material produced for hand held, mobile, websites and PCs).
14 - Branding sponsored by Tell Online
For demonstrating creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation in the creation of a new Brand or within an existing Brand (this may include product branding) across all media.
15 - Collaboration between business & young people sponsored by the University of the West of England
This category will recognise creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation on a project that has been a collaboration between business and young people.
16 – Newcomer sponsored by The Formation Zone at the University of Plymouth
To reward consistent creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation by an individual with less than 5 years in the media industry over a range of projects. Entry can be by nomination or self-nomination.
17 – Outstanding contribution sponsored by Bishop Fleming
To reward an individual or a team for significant creative, design, editorial, technical or commercial innovation within the industry. Entry can be by nomination or self-nomination.
18 – 2009 MIA Trophy sponsored by Plymouth City Council
The 2009 MIA Trophy will be awarded to the most exceptional project, individual or company drawn from the winners of the above.
