The Media Innovation Awards 2009 will open for entries in November
and thousands of creative industries practitioners in the South West
are invited to put their work forward in a bid to win one of the prestigious awards.
Some new award categories have been added to reflect the ever-increasing
range of creative media skills and there are now 17 categories for
the most innovative:
- Television project
- DVD or CD
- Community website
- Corporate website
- Mobile communications project
- Multi-platform project
- Independent film or video
- Screen graphics
- Print graphics
- Photographic project
- Installation or exhibition project
- Audio or music project for screen
- Virtual world or gaming project
- Branding
- Collaboration between business and young people
- Newcomer
- Outstanding individual contribution to innovation
In addition an overall winner will be chosen from the winners of the above categories
to receive the coveted MIA Trophy.
Karen Stockdale of the Media Innovation Awards said,
“The standard of entries for the last two years has been outstanding. The level of creative talent and innovation in the industry keeps getting better and better and I am really looking forward to this year’s entries.”
Entries for the competition are invited from the 3500 members of the five media cluster groups in the region, The Gloucestershire Media Group, Plymouth Media-Partnership, Cornwall Media Focus, Wessex Media Group and Bristol Media. It is also open to the 2000 members of the South West Design Forum groups - Designed in Devon, West of England Design Forum, Cornwall Design Forum, Somerset Design Enterprise Network and Bournemouth/Poole Enterprise Pavilion.
The event culminates in a glittering gala awards dinner at the Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol on Thursday 12th March to celebrate the cream of the creative media industry.
The event has already attracted a number of sponsors; the event itself is being sponsored by South West Screen, the South West of England Regional Development Agency, Pyramid Presentations, Plymouth College of Art and Design, and PR Dogs; while the individual categories are being sponsored by Plymouth City Council, Pyramid Presentations, Bristol City Council, the Formation Zone at the University of Plymouth, Silverstream, Audio Network, Bishop Fleming, Tell and Tamar Science Park. Other sponsors are ITV and Business Link.
