JUDGES ANNOUNCED FOR 2009

An impressive line-up of media and design professionals will be judging the 2009 Media Innovation Awards.

The judges have been selected for their expertise in many different aspects of the creative media and design industry, including television, photography, website design, interactive media, electronic and digital media. Many of them have built their own businesses, work for national organisations or lecture in various media sectors.

Mark Leaver, Director of Development at South West Screen, will be the chair of the judges; he has over 16 years of experience across both the television and digital media sectors, working for international corporations and as an independent consultant and a national broadcaster. The other judges are:

·         Kate Bradshaw from ITV.com, who commissions interactive experiences around ITV’s top TV brands like the X Factor

·         Alexander Gibbins, a lecturer in Multimedia Technology at the University of Derby

·         Stephen Gray, founder of digital agency ‘Stickee Ltd’

·         Mark Herbert, an inspirational digital media designer

·         Colin Porter, the chairman of The Brand Foundry

·         Lisa Sargood, a multiplatform commissioning executive with BBC Vision

·         Jo Taylor, 4Talent manager at Channel 4

·         Tom Thorne, managing director and owner of leading mobile agency Candyspace

·         Richard Vickers, senior lecturer in New Media at the University of Lincoln

Karen Stockdale of the Media Innovation Awards said, “We are delighted to have such a strong panel of judges to select the nominations and winners. If the standard of entries in previous years is anything to go by the judges will face a difficult challenge.”

The Media Innovation Awards 2009 opened in November and entries to win one of the sought-after awards are invited from the 3500 members of the five media cluster groups in the region, The Gloucestershire Media Group, Plymouth Media-Partnership, Cornwall Media Focus, Wessex Media Group and Bristol Media as well as 2000 members of the South West Music Forum, Creative Bath and the South West Design Forum nodes of Designed in Devon, West of England Design Forum, Cornwall Design Forum, Somerset Design Enterprise Network, Gloucestershire Design Network and Dorset Design Forum.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner at the Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol on Thursday 12 March.
